In the years 2004-2005, Columbian painter Fernando Botero worked on a series of paintings named Abu Ghraib. Ever since the photographs of the Abu Ghraib prison were published in 2004, this name came to symbolize a policy that endorses abuse and torture in the name of justice. The hypocrisies around the events in Abu Ghraib prompted the artist to paint this cycle. US museums simply disregarded these works during Botero exhibitions. When liberal Berkeley University finally showed this cycle, Botero donated the entire series to the university in gratitude. In the exhibition “Botero”, in Bank Austria Kunstforum, “Abu Ghraib”, the outraged artist’s cycle on human brutality, will be on display until January 15, 2012. (wh/ca)

With 47 registrations from Eastern and South-Eastern Europe this CEE´s focus is the largest so far in the history of the “VIENNAFAIR”, including this year such significant positions as the Riga Gallery from Latvia, Plan B and Ivan from Romania, lokal_30 from Poland or Tulips and Roses from Lithuania as well as Skuc and P.A.R.A.S.I.T.E from Slovenia. With Gisich from St. Petersburg,GMG and paperworks from Moscow, the Russian scene shows again a strong presence in Vienna after a long while. With a total of five galleries, amongst these acb and Raday, Hungary is again strongly represented as in previous years. New this year are the Newman Popiashvili Gallery from Georgia and Tengri Umai Gallery from Kazakhstan. Also for the first time in Vienna (present with artists- streichen weil eh klar) are the Jiri Svestka Gallery from Prague, Art Radionica Lazareti and Contemporary Croatian Photography from Croatia.

From March 31 to April 3, 2011 – Under the direction of the international event promoter – Johnessco Rodriguez - The Grimaldi Forum will be transformed once again in 4000 square meters art gallery for Art Monaco’11. Monaco will serve as host to more than 60 exclusive galleries from around the globe. Galleries will showcase and sell their original creations during the four-day festival. A VIP reception on March 31st will kick off the event, followed by three full days of vernisage-style exhibits open to the public.

From April 29th till May 2nd the ArtMonaco10 took place at the Grimaldi Forum at Monte Carlo. We took a look with our camera and catched the nicest views of the fair at the cote d’azur …

The Grimaldi Forum served as host to more than 60 exclusive galleries, presenting 2000 pieces of art from well-known and emerging artists coming from countries countries such as the United States, China, Mexico, Africa, Russia, Lebanon, Colombia, Italy, Portugal, Sweden, France, Germany, Canada, Israel, Thailand, Mongolia, Taiwan, Czech Republic, etc. CastYourArt has been invited to participate at this years ArtMonaco. Austria’s newest international art fair offering, the “art albertina“, is specifically dedicated to a medium which has, until now, often played a subordinate role in the art market—drawing. From September 23rd to the 27th, several prestigious art dealers and galleries will be presenting master drawings from every period in the Propter-Homines-Halle of the Albertina Museum. By mid-January, the London Art Fair kicks off the international art fair season. At year end, offerings such as Art Basel Miami or alternatively, the Contemporary Art Fair in Istanbul are up for grabs to art dealers, buyers, and onlookers.
