Tomak - PHANTOMAK
13. January 2012, 20:55:03 unter Artworks, Austria, CastYourArt, Exhibitions, Galleries, German, Podcasts, Portraits, Technische Universität Wien, Universities, Video, ViennaIn the exhibition “PHANTOMAK” in the Vienna University of Technology, sculptures by the artist Tomak are presented to the public for the first time. The sculpture series PHANTOMAK consists of eleven individual busts of the artist, produced in a complex technical procedure – Wood Jackson, Rotpeter, Height, Headquarters…

„Thus my work completes itself by the sculpture.“ (TOMAK)
The sculpture series PHANTOMAK was produced in the course of the past one and a half years. The works were manufactured in close cooperation with the Vienna University of Technology (institute of art and design – spatial development and modelling), the German company Rampf Tooling and an Austrian foundation. CastYourArt is responsible for the organisation of the project. more »

17. June 2011, 13:14:59 unter Announcement, Austria, CastYourArt, Exhibitions, Galleries, ViennaRudolf Polanszky - Models for Transaggregate Structures
30. May 2011, 15:08:03 unter Austria, Galleries, German, Konzett, Podcasts, Portraits, Video, ViennaPolanszky shows that perceptions do not simply happen within us, but in fact are performed by us – producing reciprocal dynamics. Rudolf Polanszky is an artist of Gallery Konzett, Vienna.

“The human being forgets that it was him who produced the images in order to use them to find his bearings. He is unable to decipher them anymore and from then on lives in function of his own images: imagination has turned into hallucination.” (Vilem Flusser)
Polanszky’s works resemble a language und avail themselves of a sequence or composition of signs and symbols, but without directly reverting to concepts and without giving a direction to the relationship between cause and effect, leaving open which one is cause and which one effect. Reality as a principle is replaced by the performance of reality, including our capacities and mechanisms of representation and interpretation. more »

No time to analyze. 13 am
Opening: Wednesday, 24 November 2010 | 6.00 - 10.00 pm
Exhibition: 25 Nov 2010 - 08 Jan 2011 | Mo-Fr 12.00 - 18.00 Uhr
Location: Gumpendorfer Straße 55, 1060 Wien/Vienna
Whenever the artist Clemens Hollerer leaves his house, his camera is always with him. He uses it as his sketchbook. By now he disposes of his own archive of photographs serving as sources for his works. Frequently he takes pictures of construction sites. Construction sites are places of transformation and photos are snapshots, freezing a moment in time when everything around stays in movement.
In his works Clemens Hollerer transfers the captured moments into new spaces and locations. In doing so he is not copying but rather reinterpreting and recreating within new surroundings. References to spaces, structures, surfaces, colors, to the simplicity of objects, as well as to construction and disassembly as expression of change distinguish his works. Predominantly, he uses wood as material because it is human, has life of its own; it is not perfect and at the same time strong and fragile. Because his works are often designed for the specific location where they are shown, in the majority of cases they are disassembled at the end of the exhibition. Assembly and disassembly are part of the construction site and part of his art. Only few works remain, often they are photos recording the works of art, in a moment of time. (wh/ca)

All the ingredients are there… It is all about finding the right mix.

There has been much debate over whether a national style, philosophical outlook, or unified and cohesive culture exists or ever has existed within Canada. The country is large geographically, with many distinct regions, and its population is diverse and made up of varying national and ethnic backgrounds. more »
1918 Artspace - Shanghai
5. August 2009, 14:16:39 unter 1918 ArtSPACE Shanghai, China, English, Galleries, Interviews, Podcasts, VideoIn terms of artistic production in China, Beijing is definitely the hub. Shanghai, in contrast, is known more as an economic center and business-oriented city. But in preparation for the upcoming EXPO 2010 in Shanghai, the city is now positioning itself in the artistic regard. It has become evident to Anne-Laure Fournier that sculptures are being set up in public spaces across the entire city, Until now, she says, painting had been occupying center stage in the local art scene.

Originally from France, Anne-Laure Fournier came to Shanghai in order to learn the language, but she remained in the city and now manages, together with Zhao Yonggang, the Galerie 1918 Shanghai ArtSPACE. Their gallery, housed in a former storage facility, is located only a few streets down from the Moganshan Lu, the art center of Shanghai, where, aside from a few traditional galleries, the Eastlink Gallery is also located. more »
