REBECCA SAUNDERS. Rockaby (2017-2024)
With a remarkable installation of 200 music boxes and collaboration with the Ensemble Mosaik, Saunders brings a novel sonic world into the historic vault of the Bank Austria Kunstforum in Vienna.
Our CastYourArt exhibition portrait provides insight into Saunders' creative process. Special moments in the creation of the music box settings, the dynamic interplay between the musicians and the mechanical sounds of the music boxes, as well as the final exhibition with the music boxes and projections of the concert on the walls of the vault, are captured.
In the interview, Rebecca Saunders tells us not only how she came up with the idea of using music boxes and what makes their use in conjunction with a live performance a unique collage. She also speaks about the importance of space for her work and the challenges that this particular location presents.
