Sébastien de Ganay - Transposition and Reproduction (en)
Along with the reopening of the Kunsthalle Krems, the Dominican church in the centre of town will offer art exhibition to the public as well. The first exhibition show works by French artist Sébastien de Ganay.
De Ganay did an in-depth artistic examination of the space, in his works he refers to the building itself as well as to different aspects of faith and religious practice, like transience, the sacred and others. Especially the works exhibited in the choir of the church display a particular modesty with an aesthetic effect that is owed to its clarity and the skilful interaction with the light shining into the cathedral.
However, beside these there are other works with a certain tongue-in-cheek approach to the solemnity of the place. In front of some rows of prayer desks made by the artist, there is a film projection showing a figure of Christ being carried through the air by a helicopter, a clip from the movie La Dolce Vita. The exhibition was curated by Andreas Hoffer, who especially emphasized the in-situ aspect of De Ganay’s work, presenting it as the conceptual link for upcoming exhibitions.
