Gerhard Ruehm - Language as Material
In the 1950ies Gerhard Ruehm was the most radical experimenter of the Viennese underground art-scene. He started as a composer, he wrote and read his onomatopoetic poems. From 1954 on he concentrated his artistic energy mainly on literature. Ruehm frees language from its daily usage and transfers it into a material of art production, even for his visual artworks.
