MIROSLAV PELÁK. Old Foundations, New Dreams.
In our CastYourArt artist portrait on the occasion of his exhibition at CA Contemporary in Vienna, Slovak artist Miroslav Pelák invites viewers to immerse themselves in an artistic world where past and present collide. In his studio, located in a former socialist administrative building, Pelák explores the remnants of a bygone era while simultaneously addressing contemporary themes. He tackles topics such as propaganda, masculinity, and the social landscape, unfolding his work as an invitation to reflect on identity and transformation. The consumer-driven visions of happiness for a better world are scrutinized alongside the nostalgic glorification of a past characterized by unfreedom and state paternalism, all in an effort to liberate our gaze towards the present. Join the artist in our film on a journey through his thoughts and visual worlds, and uncover the layers of meaning behind his striking art.
