The Albertina museum dedicates its new exhibition to Amadeo Modigliani, the mysterious loner among the avant-gardists of the early 20th century. Not only great artworks by Modigliani and his colleagues Picasso, Brancusi, Derain and others are shown in this exhibition but the exhibition also follows the idea that archaic and non-european art had a big impact on the avant-gard artists of this time.  The exhibition was curated by Marc Restellini and Gunhild Bauer.

Starting with 21 self-portraits by Egon Schiele the current Albertina Modern exhibition "Schiele and his Legacy" asks for the impact of Schiele's oeuvre on contemporary art. The paperworks of Egon Schiele were a challenge not only for his contemporaries but also for the conservators of our days as these works on paper are highly fragile. On the ocassion of the upcoming exhibition "Schiele and his legacy" at the Albertina Modern we visited Karine Bovagnet, conservator at the Albertina, to give us an insight into the process of conservating a Schiele drawing.

From Pablo Picasso to Andy Warhol, from Oskar Kokoschka to Arnulf Rainer, the photographer Franz Hubmann took portraits of them all. Recently the collector and former gallerist Helmut Klewan donated more than hundred works by Franz Hubmann to the Albertina Museum in Vienna. Now they are on view in the current exhibition "Franz Hubmann. Artist portraits. The Helmut Klewan donation."

Albertina Kurator Achim Gnann hat ein neues Buch verfasst über die Landschaftszeichnungen des niederländischen Barockmeister Rembrandt. Many art lovers associate the name of photographer Nobuyoshi Araki (*1940) primarily with pornographic images of bondage, of sex and of bondage sex. Walter Moser, curator of the Araki exhibition at the Albertina Modern, puts his focus on Araki's "first-person photography", which – as Walter Moser states – was his main contribution to photography.

Max Weiler zählt zu den wichtigsten und produktivsten Zeichnern seiner Generation. In mehr als siebzig Jahren künstlerischer Arbeit entstand ein knapp 3.500 Arbeiten umfassendes zeichnerisches Werk, das in so gut wie allen Formaten und Techniken seinen Ausdruck fand.

Max Weiler und die Albertina verbindet eine lange und fruchtbare Beziehung. Seit dem Beginn der 1950er-Jahre wurden kontinuierlich Papierarbeiten angekauft, 2011 wurde in einer Retrospektive erstmals das zeichnerische Werk in seiner ganzen Tiefe und Vielfalt vorgestellt. Yvonne Weiler hat der Albertina nun eine Schenkung von 17 Werken übergeben.

Marc Chagall und Kasimir Sewerinowitsch Malewitsch zählen zu den bedeutendsten Vertretern der russischen Avantgarde. Der Brutalismus ist wohl einer der meistgehassten Baustile der Architekturgeschichte. Béton brut, Sichtbeton, ist der Ursprung des Begriffs Brutalismus. Das Architekturzentrum Wien widmet sich unter dem Titel „SOS Brutalismus – Rettet die Betonmonster“ diesem lange diskreditierten Architekturstil.

Keith Harings Wortbilder waren der Versuch, eine Sprache zu erschaffen, die über soziale Grenzen hinweg verständlich ist. Dies ist die These der von Dieter Buchhart in der Albertina kuratierten Ausstellung, die daher auch den Titel „Keith Haring. Das Alphabet“ trägt.

Direktor Florian Steininger von der Kunsthalle Krems leitet uns durch die zeitgenössische Kunsttheorie. Im aktuellen Beitrag spricht er über eine Arbeit der Oskar Kokoschka Preisträgerin Martha Jungwirth und über das Verhältnis von abstrakter Figur und Natur.

Rund 100 Jahre war das Albertina Museum Residenz habsburgischer Erzherzöge und Erzherzoginnen. Von dieser Zeit zeugen 20 kostbar ausgestattete und aufwendig restaurierte Prunkräume, die mit wertvollen Wandbespannungen, Kronleuchtern, Kaminen, erlesenen Intarsien und edlen Möbeln in das prachtvolle Reich des Klassizismus entführen.

Klaus Albrecht Schröder, Direktor des Albertina Museums, führt uns in unserem Filmbeitrag ein in die Kunstrichtung der Pop Art und ihre wichtigsten Protagonisten.

Die Fotografin Lee Miller wurde mit 35 eine der wenigen weiblichen Kriegsfotografen und kam im zweiten Weltkrieg zusammen mit den Alliierten nach Deutschland.
